Our Sustainability Commitment

At Apparel & Beyond, sustainability is not a marketing slogan. It is built into how we operate every day.
 

We intentionally run a low impact production environment, focusing on responsible resource use, waste reduction, and community driven reuse. Our goal is simple: produce what people need, avoid what they do not, and help keep usable materials in circulation whenever possible.

Low Impact Production

Our shop is designed to operate efficiently without industrial scale resource demands.

  • All equipment runs on standard electrical power

  • Water use averages less than 10 gallons per day, primarily for humidity control rather than production discharge

  • No industrial discharge systems or chemical washout processes

  • No solvent based cleaning products
     

By keeping production lean and controlled, we reduce energy use, water consumption, and environmental risk.

Responsible Materials and Printing

We prioritize safer materials and cleaner production methods.

  • Water based pigment inks are used instead of plastisol inks

  • No harsh chemical cleaners or solvents

  • Responsible recycling of ink cartridges through certified collection programs

  • Made to order production model to prevent excess inventory and textile waste
     

This approach reduces chemical exposure, eliminates unnecessary waste, and supports long term environmental safety.
 

Waste Reduction First

We operate with waste prevention as a core principle.

  • Approximately one bag of landfill waste per month

  • Cardboard and packaging materials recycled whenever possible

  • No mass production that could lead to unsold inventory

  • Production scaled to real demand
     

We believe the most sustainable product is the one that never becomes waste.
 

Community Impact and Textile Reuse

  • Sustainability extends beyond our shop and into our community.

  • We actively support textile reuse and waste diversion through community initiatives.

  • Most recently, we hosted the Kentlands Clothing Swap, redistributing over 600 pounds of clothing to local residents and keeping wearable garments out of landfills.

  • Events like this promote reuse, reduce fast fashion waste, and strengthen local resource sharing.
